Dac.Carpentry is a local company which has been trading since 1988, providing all aspects of carpentry with  21 years of experience to our credit. In that time we have had experience in refurbishing very old property, building brand new property, and conversion of lofts, barns and garages.  Most of this work is carried out under the supervision of a locally elected company of surveyors for the County Council, who require the highest standards of Health and Safety. They also expect people to be insured and be able to conduct themselves in a sensible and helpful manner.

Considerations for a loft;
 
Below are a few points worth considering;
  • Where will the stairs go? Will space saver stairs fit as an alternative to conventional stairs?
  • A flight of stairs require a large floor area and have a few rules that must be adhered to.  Is there enough head room?
  •  
    Is there a chimney in the way? A chimney can be removed, but obviously only if it isn't in use.
  • Where will the water tank go?
  • How many windows would you like? Flat or pitched roof dormers or just Velux.
 
All of these points and more can be discussed during the initial survey. 
Afterwards a surveyor will contact you to make an appointment to visit. 
Our nominated surveyor is an ex S.O.D.C. surveyor and his knowledge and understanding of loft design and regulations is second to none in this area. He will take accurate measurements which are necessary to prepare plans for either building regulations or planning permission, which ever applies.
Once the drawings have been prepared a fee will apply, as the drawings need to be sent to S.O.D.C. or the Vale of White Horse DC for building regulation approval or planning permission, which can take up to 6 weeks for an answer.  Most conversions do not require full planning permission, but there are exceptions.
The planning regulations regarding loft conversions has recently been relaxed to enable more people to improve and add value to their property with a conversion.
 All of the above can seem a little daunting, but rest assured, we can make it easy and simple for you.
 
 Part Build.
 
 
If you feel that you would like to convert your own loft or garage but don't have the know how. We can help.
We can either,  do all the structural work, leaving you to finish in your own time or we are prepared to help on a consultation basis only. Weekly meetings can be arranged to instruct you on all the jobs for the week ahead. Also a helpful voice on the other end of the phone is always there, if you come across any problems. This method of building is possible for those on a budget with plenty of time.
 
Even if you don't want a full loft conversion, we can still supply and fit loft ladders.  We can also insulate your loft, either by laying insulation quilt on top of the ceiling joists in the conventional way or fixing purpose made insulation board to the back of the rafters. This will insulate the complete loft, which will help to stop damp from getting into anything stored.
 
We can also lay a floor down for storage as long as the ceiling joists are strong enough.
 
A small contract will be drawn up explaining our responsibilities to you, and yours to us. This way from the outset everybody knows what is going on and when.

Converting a garage.
 
Converting a garage is generally a simple operation.
Whether you require an office, a playroom, bedroom or just another room, you will want a room which is warm, insulated and habitable.  We can fit extra power points, a radiator and replace the door with a window. A new access from the house maybe required via a new doorway.
This will require building regulation approval. 
Again, all of your requirements can be discussed during or after a survey. This may also seem a little daunting, but we can do all the work, while you plan the finishing touches.
